Memorial Day is upon us!  To some, this impending holiday signifies the unofficial start of summer, a weekend with friends and family at the beach, or an extra day off of work. We at Southerndoe love a reason to celebrate as much as the next, but we also take the true meaning of Memorial Day to heart.

Memorial Day’s roots run deep, deep to the Civil War.  Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it was previously known, was originally a day to commemorate both the Confederate and Union soldiers who lost their lives during the war.  Today, Memorial Day Monday is a day to honor and remember all military women and men who have given their lives for our beloved United State of America.  We hope that in-between all your weekend festivities, you take a few minutes to reflect and remember all those who have bravely died for us.  Please remind yourself and the folks around you of the true meaning of Memorial Day.

God Bless America and all of you on this special weekend!
