A Dog is a Doe's best friend.  They cheer us up on rainy days, hang out and watch tv with us and rip apart stuffed animal toys.   (Oh that last one’s not a good thing?)  We try to feed our family healthy, nutritious foods and snacks… but are you including your dog in that grouping?  I know we didn’t.  We can’t deny that picking up a box of milk-bones in the dog aisle is easy, but it’s not exactly the best choice.  And lets be honest, we’d have our dog go on living for twenty more years if we had our way… that’s why we starting tossing together some simple ingredients to make our own baked biscuits!  Not as extreme as making our own dog food, but as our pooches are spoiled, treats make up a good part of their diet.

Recipe:
2 ½ cups of whole-wheat flour
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 bullion cube – or bullion substitute
1 ¼ cup of boiling water

Dissolve the bullion in the boiling water.  Mix the flour, salt, egg, and bullion water together in a large bowl.  Mix the ingredients together with a mixer.  Roll out the dough onto a floured surface. (We like rolling out dough onto wax paper, it hardly sticks!)  Use your favorite cookie cutters to make some fun shaped treats for your pooch.  If your pup likes cheese feel free to add a little bit to top off the biscuits.  Bake at 350° F for 20 - 23 minutes.  Cool your treats before you have your pup perform an amazing trick for their healthy treat!

That’s it!  This recipe only takes a few minutes to put together, not including bake time.  These treats also make a great gift to a fellow dog lover, no gift speaks louder than something home-made!
